Ireland carries a sense of history that is present in its landscape
in its castles, estates, and the myths and legends woven into the country.
For couples, the setting becomes more than a backdrop;
it shapes the atmosphere of the celebration in a natural and understated way. The result is a wedding experience that feels grounded, atmospheric,
and deeply connected to place.
Most of my couples are planning their wedding from abroad.
Working with an experienced wedding photographer
in Ireland, it means having someone who understands
how weddings naturally flow across castles,
estates, and countryside venues,
and who works closely with your planner and venue team.
My role includes:
-Understanding the timeline and structure of the day
-Working closely with planners and venue teams
-Knowing when to step in, and when to step back
anticipating moments without interruption
-Ensuring the story of the day is documented naturally
as it unfolds
The result is a wedding day
that flows naturally and is experienced fully
find out more about my approach ->
My approach is based on observation and understanding how
a wedding naturally unfolds.
I don’t approach your celebration as a series of set events,
but as one continuous flow — shaped by
people, place, and atmosphere, focusing on what matters
as it happens, and responding in a way that feels natural and real.
There are moments where I step back and simply observe,
and moments where gentle direction helps things come together.
This balance comes from many years of working across
Ireland and Europe.
The intention is always the same: to create work that reflects
the atmosphere of your celebration, as it unfolded.

manicured grounds

Meet Wim Vanhengel
I’m Wim.
For me, photography has always been about people and how a
celebration really feels. The connection between two people, the atmosphere
of a place, and the moments that often go unnoticed are what I’m drawn to.
I work in a personal and attentive way that allows couples to feel comfortable and fully immersed in the day. My role is not only to photograph what happens, but to guide when needed and create space for real, honest moments.
I’m inspired by meaningful celebrations and unique places with character,
from Irish estates to weddings at chateaus abroad. Every image is created with
honesty, feeling, and intention.
I want your photographs to bring you back to the people, the atmosphere,
and the feeling of your celebration
natural, personal, and true to who you are.
That connection is at the heart of everything I do. More than anything,
I want your images to still feel real years from now.
Let’s talk about your celebration ->
Having Wim as our wedding photographers was one of the amazing things that happened in our big day. His kindness and creativity are contagious, besides his work is absolutely fantastic. Looking at the pictures now and sharing them with our family and friends, we can still fell the emotions of each moment, it is like being transported to that time and fell that same emotion thru the pictures. His ability to capture the perfect timing is outstanding, this is a gift that he has!
Thanks Wim for playing such a great part of our wedding. We cannot recommend you highly enough. You made us shine and have so much fun!!

No templates. No repetition.
Every wedding is approached individually,
shaped by the people, the place, and how everything unfolds.
I take on a limited number of weddings each year so I can stay fully present and give each celebration the attention it deserves.
My background in fashion and film influences how I see
light, movement, and composition.
I also use film where it fits, adding depth and texture to the final collection.
Before the wedding, I help guide timing, light, and location decisions
so everything flows easily
Your story is not standard — and the way it’s documented shouldn’t be either.
Some of the questions that often come up when planning from abroad
How do you approach a wedding day?
I work in a observational way, focusing on real moments as they naturally unfold throughout the day.
Do you give directions during the wedding?
Only when needed. Most of the time, I observe, but I will step in when it helps things come together naturally. This balance helps create photographs that feel real, while ensuring the day flows smoothly.
How many weddings do you take on each year?
I take on a limited number of weddings each year so I can stay fully present for each celebration
and give every couple the attention their day deserves.
When should we get in touch?
Whenever you feel ready. Booking timelines are shorter than they used to be,
and I take on a limited number of weddings each year.
Do you work alongside wedding planners?
Yes, I regularly work alongside wedding planners and venue teams. We stay closely aligned throughout
the celebration, so everything flows naturally, while keeping the experience personal and enjoyable.
If you’re looking for a wedding planner in Ireland, I can recommend :
Maria at The Event Design Company

If you’re here, you’re likely planning a wedding in Ireland and looking for someone to document it in an honest way.
If the work resonates, I’d love to hear from you.
Most couples I work with are planning from abroad,
often alongside a wedding planner, and reach out
once their date and venue are in place.
If you feel a connection to my work, the best way to begin is simply to get in touch.
Tell me a little about your plans
your date, your venue, and what matters most to you.
I’ll reply personally, and we can see if it feels like the right fit.
I respond to all enquiries personally.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Wim
