An intimate candlelit elopement in a Loire Valley château
During this elopement in France, we took a short portrait session inside the château using only candlelight. It was late in the day. No direct lighting, no over-staging — just the couple, the room, and the candles.
What made it work wasn’t the setup. It was how they were with each other. They stayed close without needing direction, completely in their own space. The candlelight didn’t create the moment — it simply showed it. It shaped the shadows and removed everything unnecessary.

It’s the opposite of how wedding photography is trending right now — very clean, very bright, very direct light. Everything controlled, everything polished. But that’s not what I want to create.
I want to show emotion, connection, and people as they actually feel in that moment — and as they want to remember it later. Not a version of a wedding shaped by social media trends or what’s currently visually popular, but something more honest. Something that stays relevant because it’s real.
This candlelit portrait session inside a château in France felt exactly like that. Nothing added, nothing forced. Just two people and how they are together.

These candlelit portraits can be an alternative
For colder evenings, rainy weather, or simply when the light outside isn’t right.
But just as often, they are a creative choice in themselves, offering a different way to see and photograph an elopement.
What stayed with me most from this part of the elopement wasn’t the candlelight itself, but the way it allowed the connection between them to become the entire focus. No distractions, no trends, no need to force anything — just two people, a château in France, and a moment that felt completely their own.
